ATTENTION Music Lovers! The Twelves & GRUM are in Vancouver tonight playing at Venue. The Brazilian duo returns hot off their Essential Mix while GRUM is making his name as the next Calvin Harris/Daft Punk. Doors at 9pm and I’ll be opening. 400 tickets already sold, don’t sleep.
Here’s a couple of my favorite tunes they have done, plus the mastered versions of Pat Lok – The Spark and Pnau – With You Forever [pat lok '1 night on granville' remix].
Tommy Sparks – Miracle (Grum Remix)
Grum – Heartbeats (Extended Mix)
Groove Armada – Drop The Tough (The Twelves Remix)
Two Door Cinema Club – Something Good Can Work (The Twelves Remix)
Pnau – With You Forever [pat lok remix]

Pnau – With You Forever (pat lok remix)
PNAU – With You Forever [pat lok remix]
I love PNAU. You remember their hits Baby or Wild Strawberries. Or member Nick Littlemore’s smash offshoot band Empire of the Sun. Here’s my disco house take on their track With You Forever.
Now I can die happy having sampled Cerrone.
Pat Lok – The Spark [a disco house original]
04/24/2010
For the last year the return of French filter house (such as Louis La Roche or Phantom’s Revenge or the Solid Bump crew) has been looming, so I finally decided it was time to make some funky disco… this is what happened. What do you think?
The Twelves and GRUM
04/15/2010
You’d have to blind deaf and dumb for the past year to have not heard The Twelves.
But… if you don’t know them, they’ve remixed MIA, Metric, Iggy Pop, Groove Armada, and Fever Ray among others with their signature electro pop sound. The Twelves’ live performance returns May 6 to Vancouver at Venue with rising indie dance/nu disco star of 2009-2010: GRUM. With the inimitable U-Tern and myself also playing.
At the risk of sounding like a complete fanboy – my excitement for this show is off the charts, kind of like the Breakbot show of last year. Check out some of the tunes below, you do not want to miss this night. Seriously I’ll pay for your ticket if you come and aren’t blown away.

What Were You Listening To 5 Years Ago?

Patrick Lok – Loungin’ the Bay (Live Mix @ Balthazar – 2006)
It’s hard to remember, but I did find this ooold school house mix from 2006.
Recorded live from one of my weekly 5-hour sets at Balthazar Hideaway in West End (now Maxine’s). there’s a bunch of deep and classic house tracks (remember Hooj Choons?) and some crossover hits (Axwell), around the time Vancouver clubs were just starting to play house music regularly – something I never thought would happen…
TWESTIVAL Vancouver 2010

100% of ticket sales go towards help meeting the needs of people living in extreme poverty, so check it out. There’s an article on CNN today on why Twestival matters.
Hip to the Hop
03/15/2010
Was digging through my old computer and came across these 10 hip hop / trip hop instrumentals from my fruityloops days. I always loved Nightmares on Wax, but really started loving hip hop after finding Mark Farina’s Mushroom Jazz on vinyl, where I was introduced to Pete Rock (and then the eternal DJ Premier).

These pretty raw but there’s lots of samples in here for you to spot – think indie rock bands and Disney movies.
PS – If you don’t know Pete Rock’s PETESTRUMENTALS or Gang Starr (DJ Premier and Guru), turn off that Black Eyed Peas or Kid Cudi for a second and meet the real hip hop.
PPS – I’m playing at Way Too Many @#$% DJs part Deux on Saint Paddy’s Day at Red X Red on Granville St, stop in and have a green beer with me!
